[CUT TO: The Chicago train station. A sea of people in various faction colors. A large group of Erudite, Candor, and Abnegation are seen. The train arrives, and a group of Dauntless emerge.]
TRIS: (whispering to Four) This is it. The train.
FOUR: (whispering back) I know.
[They step off the train, into the chaos of the station.]
EREGON: (cheering) Tris Prior, Four, you’re heroes!
TRIS: (surprised) Eragon?
EREGON: (cheering) You’ve done it! You’ve done what no one thought was possible!
[The crowd goes wild.]
CUT TO: The Erudite headquarters.
ERUDITE LEADERS: (to each other) She’s a liability.
NITA: (to Elyria) We can’t let her live.
ELYRIA: (looking at Erdas) What do we do?
ERDAS: (seriously) We must eliminate her.
[Cut back to the train station.]
TRIS: (whispering to Four) What’s happening?
FOUR: (whispering back) The Erudite don’t want us to succeed.
[CUT TO: A group of Erudite guards approaching Tris and Four.]
JANSON: (to Tris and Four) You’re coming with us.
TRIS: (standing firm) No.
JANSON: (brandishing a gun) Then I’ll have to use this.
[He fires, but Four moves in quickly and disarms him.]
TRIS: (looking at Four) You shouldn’t have done that.
FOUR: (seriously) It’s okay. I had to.
[They’re taken away by the Erudite guards.]
[CUT TO: The Erudite headquarters. The Erudite leaders are gathered.]
ERUDITE LEADERS: (to each other) This is unacceptable.
ELYRIA: (to Erdas) What do we do now?
ERDAS: (seriously) We must find a way to eliminate them.
[Cut back to Tris and Four in a holding cell.]
TRIS: (whispering to Four) We need to get out of here.
FOUR: (whispering back) I’m on it.
[They manage to break out and escape into the city.]
[CUT TO: The Chicago cityscape. Tris and Four are running through the streets.]
TRIS: (whispering to Four) We need to find a way to get out of the city.
FOUR: (whispering back) I know. Let’s go to the airport.
[They run to the airport, where they find a group of Candor and Amity members waiting.]
CUT TO: The Candor and Amity headquarters.
CANDOR LEADERS: (to each other) We need to help them.
AMITY LEADERS: (to each other) We will.
[The Candor and Amity members join Tris and Four, and they prepare to leave the city.]
[CUT TO: The airport. The group is loading onto a plane.]
TRIS: (to the group) We have to stick together.
FOUR: (to Tris) We will.
[The plane takes off, and the group is taken to the resistance base.]
[CUT TO: The resistance base. The group is gathered.]
ERUDITE LEADERS: (to each other) They must be stopped.
NITA: (to Elyria) We have to do something.
ELYRIA: (looking at Erdas) What do we do?
ERDAS: (seriously) We must destroy them.
[Cut back to Tris and Four in the resistance base.]
TRIS: (to the group) We need to prepare for a fight.
FOUR: (to Tris) We will.
[The group prepares for battle, and the war begins.]
[CUT TO: The battlefield. The Erudite are attacking the resistance base.]
TRIS: (to Four) We need to hold them back.
FOUR: (to Tris) I’ll cover you.
[Tris and Four fight valiantly, holding back the Erudite.]
[CUT TO: The resistance base. The group is in full retreat.]
TRIS: (to Four) We need to get out of here.
FOUR: (to Tris) I’m on it.
[They manage to escape, but are pursued by the Erudite.]
[CUT TO: The Chicago cityscape. Tris and Four are running through the streets.]
TRIS: (whispering to Four) We can’t keep running.
FOUR: (whispering back) We need to fight back.
[They find a group of Candor and Amity members, and they fight together against the Erudite.]
[CUT TO: The resistance base. The group is holding their ground.]
TRIS: (to the group) We can do this.
FOUR: (to Tris) We will.
[The group fights valiantly, and the Erudite are forced to retreat.]
[CUT TO: The Chicago cityscape. The Erudite are in full retreat.]
TRIS: (to Four) We did it.
FOUR: (to Tris) We did it.
[They embrace, and the screen fades to black.]
